Painted Vase and Glass Scented Candles with Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray

Another month of being inspired by the amazing colour range of Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray from Novasol Spray UK. This month, I wanted to use the spray paints on glass and try a couple new colours.

I previously used Pale Turquoise and Broken White on my bench project and Blue Indigo on my white cube storage boxes project. The two new colours for this month were Turquoise and Mint Green.

I purchased a clear vase and round clear glass scented candles to test the Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray on. The other supplies that I used for this project was blue masking tape and white round stickers.

I wanted the base and the top edge on the glass candle holder to not be painted so using the blue masking tape I carefully covered these areas. The candle came with a plastic disk covering the top of the candle wax so I left this on the candle and placed blue masking tape to cover up the candle wick and surrounding area.

Now the fun part and time to ask my Daughter to help me. She used white round stickers to create dots on the sides of the glass where the coloured candle wax would be seen through the glass. Repeated this process on the other candle holder.

We decided to use the Mint Green colour of Pinty Plus Chalk Paints Spray with the pink candle and Broken White colour with the turquoise candle. After a quick shake of the cans of paint, I sprayed the glass candles. The key is light sprays around 10 inches from the surface.

The Mint Green looked rather pale when applied but darken up when dry. The paint dries within 15 minutes. While removing the round stickers, I did create some scratches in the paint surface. I would suggest using the Pinty Plus Art and Craft Varnish (Matt) to protect the paint surface. I did not use on candle holders but did use on the vase.

The vase required a little more careful taping than the candles holders. I decided to create vertical stripes of colour on the vase. I wanted to keep the base and top edges of the vase from being painted some carefully covered these areas with blue masking tape.

The hardest part was creating equal vertical stripes. I used the width of the blue masking tape to create the stripes that would stay clear on the vase. I placed small pieces of tape on the top rim of vase to decide on spacing. Then lined up the tape at top of vase then down to the bottom of vase. Make sure that tape is firmly stuck to the glass.

Filled the vase with some paper and the sealed up the top to keep paint from sneaking into the inside of the vase.

Now time to paint. My preferred coloured order was Mint Green, Pale Turquoise, Turquoise, Blue Indigo and Broken White.

Laying the vase on its side on a flat surface. I taped pieces of paper on either side of the stripe that I wanted to paint. Light sprays of paint back and forth around 10 inches for surface. The paint will darken up a little bit when dried.

Let the paint dry for 15 minutes. Then carefully remove paper and carefully rotate vase for next colour. Be very careful not to scratch paint surface while moving. Before removing the blue masking tape, I would recommend spraying the vase with a Pinty Plus Art and Craft Varnish (Matt). The varnish dries completely matt and does not change the colour of the Pinty Plus Chalk Paint finishes but protects the paint surface.

The paint surface on vase can still be scratched but not as easily as the candle holders that varnish was not applied too. The Pinty Plus Art and Craft Varnish also comes in gloss and satin can be used on many different surfaces. Perfect to use on future projects.

I really love the finished vase and colours. I can not wait to fill with flowers throughout the year.

I am very excited that I have been asked to continue to work as an Ambassador for Novasol UK. I loved using the Pinty Plus Chalk Spray Paints and looking forward to using some other products from  the Pinty Plus Aqua (Gloss) range or chrome paint from Pinty Plus Art range.
